Humanoid robots, no matter how power efficient always have this insanely dangerous failure mode of falling the fuck over that wheeled robots just don't suffer from
️I don't care how "helpful" these bots might be in a home. Just imagine it falling on a small kid or pet...
Humans are limited by biology. When you can literally do anything that doesn't violate physics, I can't think of anything a biped has an advantage on. Looks cute I guess.

@ShelbyvonTrapp @peter We spent several years working with the DARPA robotics trials. So we saw robots falling down rather frequently.
Here's a video of some falls later in the program (falls were rather more common in the earlier phases. The hardest thing in our test course was for the robots to get out of the ATV that they had to drive.)
(My role was to mess up the communications with the robots - so many falls came from me pushing a button that did something like added a lot of network latency or packet loss.)

But WHY? Why did they throw a cover over it? We know it's there. We know it fell down. We don't forget things existed once we can't see them anymore.
It isn't alive. It's whole point is it isn't alive.So, why did they rush up there and throw, what, modesty covers on it? Which made it really difficult to carry.
As you can tell, this video blew my mind. They rushed in like it was a code blue.
We're doomed, and its anthropomorphization that will do us in, not the robots.
