i already said: you can accept macklemore's explanation and his apology and consider him a moron, or you can consider him a liar and an antisemite. i don't care. do whatever you want

for me, i will refer to his words on antisemitism from two days ago

      thank you

israel has a right to exist

palestine has a right to exist

the *only* way forward is a two state solution

but neither seems capable of working that out

israelis and palestinians were murdering each other long before i was born, and probably long after i'm dead

      unless...

      what?

i feel the two state solution has to be imposed on them by the world

but that is a *huge* ask

      so we are stuck

      @benroyce

Israelis have been murdering Palestinians (overwhelmingly) for just 70 years.

We have to admit that zionism was a mistake.

Will there be a place for a "jewish ethnostate" in the middle-east?

That is not a given. If it can only be maintained with an endless stream of US bombs, then maybe there shouldn't be?

@Uair it’s heckin complicated. A lot of non-Jewish people don’t understand that Israel is separate from Judaism. I’ve had to explain to very good pals that I didn’t have any connection to or sympathy for Israel, that my Judaism was entirely disconnected from Israel. That branding campaign has been extremely successful and problematic because they aren’t one & the same. @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague

Sorry to hear that. I'm atheist, but read a ton of Jews. Not one of 'em supports this shit. They're fairly quiet about it as public figures. They don't want to get attacked by the ADL. I think something like 70% or Israel has been out to protest Bennie in the past couple years.

But you don't have to worry about me. You, and I, need to worry about the dumb thug on the street who likes hurting people way more than he likes thinking about things. And I can see Bennie making that worse, by a lot.

the problem with those words is you are supporting one of the 2 maximalist positions: the area completely palestinian (the other: the area completely israeli)

both maximalist positions lead to a river of blood

so no, i reject your words

the only way forward, unless you love death and suffering, is a 2 state solution

understand that and join us at the 2 state table

or admit what you are really supporting

            Own goal of the century:

British singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran's Loop tour boots American rapper Macklemore, after Macklemore condemns Israel's genocide in Gaza.

            Result:

American singer Fineas quits the Loop tour.

            Dublin singer-songwriter Aaron Rowe quits.

Danish pop singer Lucas Graham quits.

Ed Sheeran's own backing band Beoga quits.

The tour was supposed to continue until December, but all that is left is Ed Sheeran and the support for Israel's genocide.

@androcat @ManWhoTalksToHisHand @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague build a wall instead k*lling them or taking their lands. Or maybe they could have had 50% of the land and Palestine the other 50? I don't know If that's just a dream

@Thatfeministwoman @androcat @ManWhoTalksToHisHand @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague israel wants it all. palestine wants it all. in 3000 years that region has only known a few periods of peace longer than 100 years (there were still skirmishes and revolts).

as reasonable as your suggestion sounds, unfortunately sustained peace is not possible in that region. best you can hope for is a temporary hault in hostilities, with a new flare up in a few years.

the only way forward is for the world to agree on a two state solution, then move in militarily and impose it on either side, then sit there for 50 years, at least

something like intervention in the balkans in the 1990s, then a DMZ like on the korean penninsula

i feel it is the only thing that will work

but that is gargantuan ask of the world to do. and there is little will to do it

Israel will never stop the river of blood for as long as Israel exists.

Why should they? The river of blood is how they got that land in the first place.

They have no right to it.

If there is a compromise to be found, it has to be one where nobody has any right to murder over land.

A south-african solution, with a commission to address all crimes, punish all criminals, restore all ownership, bring back all displaced peoples.

yes, #antisemitism is on the rise in the world

so we talk about it and we oppose it

we *also* talk about and we oppose #Israel's genocidal actions

                      we do both

and those are completely unrelated, uncrossed topics

except in the words of complete idiots and manipulative liars

@Thatfeministwoman @androcat @ManWhoTalksToHisHand @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague that's admirable, and desirable. unfortunately, it seems unlikely. i know you didn't ask for it, but my free advice to you is to prepare for the opposite to happen. for a number of reasons, we are reverting to a more hateful, divided and tribal humanity. we can still hope it won't happen, of course, but it's best to prepare yourself for it.

you just gave me a flashback to when i used to work nights at this IT job and the janitor was a recent immigrant (in new york city)

he was a catholic kosovar albanian

anyway we talked a lot of shit because it was just us two

and what impressed me was how he said what you just said. he got very serious and spoke slower and stared in the distance, this resolution to let the past be the past

A power move would be for the musicians to say that okay, we're forced to play so we play.

And then perform exactly as well as you would expect when you're forced against your will by the lead act and their lawyers. While making clear to the audience they're there against their will.

That would only piss off the fans, which would in turn hurt the artists and their reputations.
They should perform exactly as well as they normally would, but should all make a point of saying what Macklemore said, during every show.

Israel will never stop the river of blood for as long as Israel exists.

Why should they? The river of blood is how they got that land in the first place.

They have no right to it.

It was forced through by antisemites in germany and the UK - remember: Hitler's Plan A was relocation.

If there is a compromise to be found, it has to be one where nobody has any right to murder over land.

A south-african solution, with a commission to address all crimes, punish all criminals, restore all ownership, bring back all displaced peoples.

A situation where "Israelis" have to behave to be allowed to remain.

@androcat @benroyce @ManWhoTalksToHisHand @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague this is what irks me the most with the left (I consider myself radical leftist) that you compare white europeans going to Africa the same as jews going & making Israel. Whites are not from Africa, their ancestors are not from there. White europeans were not persecuted out of Africa. It would be like saying Romani's shouldnt go and make their own state in India because it's been 100s of years when they came to Europe.

@randahl This is truly remarkable; silencing one voice does not silence the truth. Sometimes, one courageous voice inspires others to rise up with it. 🇵🇸🥹

I don't understand your point of view. Then there are jewish "arabs" or whatever you wanna call them who's grandparents grandparents were born there. And what "violence" did they do to get there? Ottomans gave Palestine to British and British gave it to Israelis and palestinians

Palestinians are also from that place.
Their ancestors lived there continuously for all of recorded history and beyond.

It's the same situation as in the Balkans: the people didn't get exchanged, they just changed their culture. And suddenly some other people who ALSO changed their culture say "We have a right to move there, because of ancient history, and we're going to murder all those people whose ancestors actually did live there in the past"

Don't pretend these are somehow equal propositions.

And the jewish arabs, by the very fact of having lived there forever, were not in any sort of danger before Israel was forced upon the land.
