i was talking about events in the UK, but. same, more or less.
@moonrabbit @Alexander_Campbell As I've been saying for the last year or so "Britain is now a republic in all but name"

the fact that i'm bewildered that an 84-yr-old lady reverend who peacefully and non confrontationally opposes genocide and the destruction of this planet is a terrorist
while hundreds of masked thugs dressed all in black who block a port for hours and chant racist slogans are protesters
is not just because i'm a commie weirdo, right? i mean surely other people see this as absurd* too?
*nowhere near enough of a word, but i think we're beyond the realms of any language adequate to describe all of this
@moonrabbit it would be absurd if it wasnt horrifying.
Orwellian? #orwell1984 -

A. You are absolutely correct.
B. If you go to the court and protest this nonsense, you will likely be arrested and probably sentenced as a 'terrorist'.
C. We (UK, sorry) no longer actually have a rational legal system, unless you're a rich person.
D. We are not yet as bad as the USA. Thank feck. -

@moonrabbit Here’s the wide angle view tho: the pendulum always swings back and forth. I don’t think I expected when I was younger that it would swing this far to the right again, but otoh, those who experienced “OG fascism” are almost all dead so it kinda makes sense.
It’s just jarring (okay, that too, way of an understatement) to be on the losing side of this. And also, I think, the feeling of unfairness cuz the baddies are winning. That’s not how the world is supposed to work! But – as the world is demonstrating to us right now – we are somebody’s baddies.
-
@moonrabbit yes, it's absurd. I agree that absurd isn't a strong enough word but I don't know a word that concerts what it is.

@moonrabbit Yeah, you're not alone. I wish I could come up with something to *do* about it.

If I understood right, and as Gramsci said, the word is hegemony.

@moonrabbit It seems the protesters were bussed in from a nearby village where they parked their cars. A local took all the car numbers and provided them to the police. But great to see Robinson supporters wearing burkas.

My take is the arrests are simply Labour coming to the Zionist lobby. Not wishing to appear as having any support for Palestine. The extent to which Labour has turned itself inside out in craven pandering to the Zionists to protect their Jewish vote is the most absurd part of this
That said, the willingness of the police to just stand by when the right wing Tommylickers and racists take to the streets is frightening.
