well i just want to remind you that in the prologue to the movie they explain how a bunch of rings of power were given for free to the peoples of middle earth and this lead to their downfall as the rings of power were secretly all under the centralized control of anthropic oh uh sorry i meant sauron .

Also this isn't a new interpretation of Tolkien, it's something he wrote about himself. In his letter to Milton Waldman (https://www.tolkienestate.com/letters/letter-to-milton-waldman-publisher-1951/) he said his works were allegorically concerned with Fall, Mortality, and the Machine.

"By [the Machine] I intend all use of external plans or devices (apparatus) instead of development of the inherent inner powers or talents–or even the use of these talents with the corrupted motive of dominating: bulldozing the real world, or coercing other wills."
