@pluralistic All these AI companies are selling a product supposedly guaranteed to help businesses make more money, yet they're all losing massive amounts and have no route to profitability.
If ChatGPT was as powerful a business tool as OpenAI says it is, OpenAI could just ask ChatGPT how to make OpenAI profitable and all their problems would be solved.

@bodhipaksa @pluralistic Why would they want the companies to be profitable?

@bodhipaksa @pluralistic isn't it exactly what Sam Altman said was his own plan to profitablity?

I'm afraid I don't click on YouTube links. I prefer to read articles.

@bodhipaksa @pluralistic That is their plan to deal with the climate impact of all their datacentres...

yt-dlp + Whisper? (Semi seriously)@dzwiedziu @danielmclaury @pluralistic I do use YouTube, but on Mastodon I don't get shown previews and I don't know if I'm getting Rickrolled, being directed to a feature-movie length tinfoil hat conspiracy video, or being linked to the most insightful analysis I've seen all year. Given that uncertainty, I prefer not to click.

@bodhipaksa @dzwiedziu @pluralistic Huh, on the mastodon server I use I see a preview of the YouTube video.
Anyway, it's a clip from the TV show "Silicon Valley." If you've seen the show, you know the one.

@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot @pluralistic@mamot.fr and things are gonna burn.
Today the manager of my manager tried giving me a speech about how we should all adopt llms in development.
His motivation is as follow: they sold to our consultancy customers the tale that AI would make development faster and cheaper. So now the customers are asking for everything to be delivered quicker and cheaper. So now the bosses are asking us to make everything quicker and cheaper, even though we told them it wouldn't work that way. So we won't be able to make everything magically quicker and cheaper. -
