I get followers who are writers. Many of them barely say anything about themselves other than to describe their books. Since I'm not previously invested in their writing, I don't follow back, because I don't want to read ads for some unknown American writer's epic fantasy novels.
On the other hand, I get follows from people who describe their lives and interests in some detail, and then add that "And my fourth novel will be out on Gruntbuggly Press in October". These I do follow back.
