@CiaraNi These books were some of my favorites, I’ve given them as gifts.
-
@CiaraNi Yes,. It just makes me feel good to imagine this world.
-
@CiaraNi @petros @radundtat If you’re ever in the mood for spaceships, try her “Wayfarers” books, starting with “The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet”. Again, optimistic and full of community, I love them.
(Edited to correct the book’s title)

@CiaraNi A personal favourite!
-
@CiaraNi beautiful book!

"Gentle, hopeful tales full of love and artistry. Exactly what the world needs."
That's a lovely description. That's it. This is my first Becky Chambers and I already have my next one on the way from the library.

@baz @petros @radundtat Sounds good - I am already looking forward to reading more by her. Optimistic and full of community - that's it. Thanks for the tip.

@CiaraNi Whenever I visit a new city, I try to find a bookshop and buy something as a souvenir. This is the book I chose at Powell's City of Books in Portland, Oregon. It's wonderful.
-
@CiaraNi Been waiting to get my hands on that! Big fan of her other books, highly recommended if you haven't read them yet!

@CiaraNi I feel like that quote is somehow controversial even though it really shouldn't be.

Powells is indeed great. I'm visiting Portland again in October and that is high on the agenda.

@TashTaylor It's gone straight on to my favourite list too! I look forward to reading more by her.

@ownlife Agreed. It really is.

@stepschwarz Ah, snap! I do that too - a book as a souvenir, and then years and decades later, I can always remember where I bought it. That bookshop sounds good.

@alex_oe It's the first one I've read of hers. Good to hear the others are great too - I am already looking forward to the next one.

@benjaminlj That's an interesting observation. Yes.
-
“We don’t have to fall into the same category to be of equal value.”
“We’re all just trying to be comfortable, and well fed, and unafraid.”
“There’s just some things in the universe that are better left un-fucked-with.”
So many Becky Chambers sentences getting jotted down in my reader's notebook. Some of them should feel twee, but don't, which says something about both the world she's written and the world we're living in.
-
@CiaraNi yes! Fantastic book by a fantastic author! Do try her other stuff. I won’t spoil it, but there is a paragraph in the last wayfarers book where aliens are discussing cheese and I have never laughed so hard.

@CiaraNi Becky Chambers - a gospel for our times
