back in reality, I'll have a check of some old american recipe books to see if they have a standard number of spoonfuls that make a cup. If so, then you can work out the differing ratios.

A teaspoon is ~5ml.
A tablespoon = 3 tsp = ~15ml =0.5 fluid ounces.
16 tbsp =1 cup = 237ml= 8 fluid ounces
My wife bakes, and she prefers to weigh flour instead of measuring in cups where possible. Not a lot of American recipes have flour instead weight, but most non-American ones do.

American pound cake/ Victoria* sponge in England
Was called that because the recipe is 4 ounces of butter, sugar, flour with two eggs. The average weight of two eggs is 4 ounces. Total 16 equals a pound.
And you can use the eggs as a counterweight to weigh the other three.

I don't get spoons or cups - how big are the spoons or cups?

One tablespoon is 3 teaspoons, about 14.7ml. Common implement in US kitchens in the US where volume not weight is used for coolking measurements. They come in plastic sets. Silver and stainless steel tablespoons are used for serving. -

Which makes the idea of buying sets of measuring spoons and cups slightly arse about tit.

Medical morphine has a horrible taste additive to prevent children from taking it. We used a graduated syringe, w/o a needle to administer 5ml oral doses to hospice patient. Changing a diaper and bedding often took two doses. -
