Don't forget to use hashtags, the algorithm doesn't operate here in the same way as other social media networks. I also recommend following hashtags for your interests as a way to add to your feed. You can also add them to your bio to boost visibility.

@mrmarcorusso Howdy! Welcome to the fediverse! I mostly do games, such as @frogatto, but I helped my best friend make a short horror film a few years ago. It's over at https://terroirmovie.com unless my friend's server is down or I've bungled DNS again.
Some of the best advice I got when joining, for me, was to follow basically everyone at the start. Then, once you had a timeline going, unfollow (or file away) everyone who posted stuff that you didn't want to see on your timeline.
