@stux Queer answer (can't give you a straight one, not sorry)? Because (a) otherwise-lefty politicians keep allowing themselves to be bought off by billionaires and (b) between that and the mess they've been handed, can't bring enough prosperity to the people to keep populists from perverting policy and getting themselves voted back in... that and in American in particular the majority of the people won't vote for a woman for the Oval Orifice...
That and various forms of election rigging don't help the issue...

The USA chose a new leader in 2024. They swapped a blue genocoder for a red genocider.
And if they switch again, I see zero possibility of them choosing an anti-genocide POTUS.
In 2024, 152 million Americans voted for genocide. When I try talking to Americans about refusing to vote for genocide, they overwhelmingly don't get the concept.

@stux Is Xi a dictator? Sure they have a one party system but you have to do a lot of politics from your neighborhood branch through committees and policy centers even to get within the inner party sanctum and nobody does it without votes of the party. It's an incredibly complex system with layers of bureaucracy. Kim on the other hand is just this anointed despot. I guess China find that easier to control. They are arguably more democractic than the US. I hate to push CCP agitprop but it's true.

Basically every country other than Ukraine could probably do better when it comes to selecting a leader. Americans can at least count themselves lucky in having an extremely good chance of doing better next time.

@stux Crony politicians are secondary to the root cause problem, of those that control the most vital, root infrastructure, with their prime objective of greed.

@GeraintLlanfrancheta @stux It seems to me to be several orders of magnitude more difficult to become and stay leader in China than USA and part of it seems to be having to spend time in a Chinese gulag - the last three were 're-educated'. If you are 16 and want to be leader in 30 years you should be a student dissident today. Even Jack Ma found out there was no shining path.
