@infobeautiful Today, my lifelong pondering over whether Lincoln's use of "Four score and seven years ago" to start the Gettysburg address was somehow a nod to the French is completely blown away by wonderment regarding whatever the fuck the Danish are doing.

@infobeautiful Didn’t think it possible to beat the French, but bravo Denmark. N.b. This map also flattens regional languages, and apparently Basque is also “vigesimal”. https://archive.is/W8kYh

@infobeautiful I vaguely recall knowing both the French way and the decimal way during Welsh lessons at school, so the 90+2 for the UK hides a bit of nuance.

edit - although clicking through the link, I guess it's only considering English for the UK.

@infobeautiful 🇩🇰 Denmark here: to be fair nobody pronounces the 20 so in reality its more like 2 & (half-5)'s.
We are not completely insane you know 😉

@infobeautiful Irish should be 2+90, or 2+10+4×20 (depending on what you're counting)

                          Oh in breton language, there’s the same logic : 2 + 10 + 4×20

                          Plus, 99 can be 9 + 10 + 4 × 20 OR simply 100 - 1 (why bother?)

The 20 basis is a celtic heritage that french also took

@rhelune @infobeautiful Yes, belgian are more logical with numbers than french are.

If you order a "demi" (half of a pint) of beer in 🇫🇷 you will have 25cl because at some point 🇫🇷 decided a pint is 50cl.
Meanwhile in 🇧🇪 a pint is 1L (100cl) so if you order a "demi" you will have 50cl - half a Litre - which make more sense.
(Or maybe it's just a 🇧🇪 ruse to get french tourist buy more - that would be funny)

@infobeautiful Scottish say 90+2 in doctor’s handwriting. France counting is inherited from the Gauls who counted like Mayas in base 20 as far I remember.

There are more important things that need fixing. Like tabs vs spaces or Emacs vs Neovim. The correct answers are obviously spaces and #Neovim. 😎
