user expectations have also slowly been shaped in unhealthy ways over the last 20 years too.

that was not a feature last time I looked at delta chat many years ago. clever feature addition. really closes the gap between email and chat that was always evident with early versions of delta chat.

I wish MMS would die in a fire, but it seems that is unlikely. everyone and their dog uses it like email now. it is the email of the smart phone era.

signal was forward looking once upon a time, in the early android phone era. but that dependence on a tel# has become a fatal liability for it and they just won't do away with it.

yes, good on signal for pushing for E2EE everywhere.

but now there's a decentralized alternative with like a 2 second onboarding, not some business asking for phone number or mail or passport scan or whatevs.

#Signal really did a bait-and-switch, starting out with encrypting sms / mms, but then suddenly routing everyones messages through #AmazonCloud.
