#fediverse n00b question: why does the tags/ page on the #forkiverse have less posts than on the mastadon.social instance? Ex:
https://theforkiverse.com/tags/thicktrunkthursday
vs
https://mastodon.social/tags/thicktrunkthursdayBoth say "2 posts · 2 participants · 1 post today" but on Forkiverse I only see two posts while on the mastadon.social page I see a bunch of thiccc trunk picccs

@petunia@theforkiverse.com it's federation issue. Your instance is pretty new and small give it some time

@petunia any questions here @FediTips is great at answering. Short answer is that #forkiverse needs time to fetch info from all the other servers, and you need to have links to them via messages boosts etc. So it might take a while. More interaction will help!

@petunia each Fediverse instance only shows hashtag results for posts it has actually seen. A newly created or small instance (like theforkiverse) simply hasn’t federated with as many accounts and servers yet, so it has a much smaller set of posts in its local index of that tag.
If you want to see all the posts on a hashtag across the Fediverse, the only reliable way right now is to check a larger or more connected instance, because no instance has a truly complete global view of every hashtag.

@petunia other answers already good but I'll add that in this case forkiverse is so new that it probably didn't even exist when some of those posts were made. It wasn't possible for them to federate over there on publication or shortly after as is the most common way for them to propagate because of that.

@petunia Due to the way federation works If no one on the forkiverse is following the users posting to those hashtags then you won't be able to see them from your server. Its partly why following lots of accounts.
You can also follow the hashtag itself which helps a lot too.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to what the numbers say on tags, they are not always reliable, and the Fediverse isn't about numbers anyway.
The main thing is just to discover, follow and interact with people. I've tried to list all the ways to do that at https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-find-accounts-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-how-do-i-find-my-friends/
