@pluralistic Got a bucket of salt water handy?

@pluralistic I wonder what they’d think if some regular dude rolled up in his van doing this on his own rig.
@manchicken what makes you think this is an actual police van and not just one painted as such?
-
To opt out, just don't have a face
@pluralistic By the time one is able to read what the sign says on the van, it's kinda too late to "opt out"...

@dacmot @pluralistic I have no good reason to believe such a thing, nor do any passers-by. This is one of the problems with surveillance.

@pluralistic Well, there was PC Lesley May in RIVERS OF LONDON... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivers_of_London_(novel)

To opt out, just don't have a face
@pluralistic Is "POLICE LIVE" a special case of "THEY LIVE" ?

To opt out, just don't have a face
@pluralistic
There is an alternative

@MyYeeHaa @pluralistic It's an excellent time to start wearing an N95 mask in public, then.
As not only will you help protect yourself and others from a disease that rots your brain and body with each new infection. (COVID-19.)
But you'll also help protect yourself from another disease: the fascist rot ruining the world.

@kbal @pluralistic They've probably been doing this for a few years now, and this is just a "Hi, how are you?"
The people are doing it for them. And even paying for it, so the government doesn't have to. Check out how many Ring cameras are out there. Police is known to access them whenever there is something going on in the neighborhood.
Put some facial recognition software on it and you're set. No need to even announce it. -
To opt out, just don't have a face
@pluralistic so, how come there's no legal requirement to be on it, but you can't opt out?
-
@pluralistic Time to invest in a range of good quality prosthetic facial features...
@eLearningTechie @pluralistic and does anyone remember what happened in silence of the lambs? Wasn’t that the movie where he got plastic surgery for a whole new face

To opt out, just don't have a face
I find your lack of face disturbing.

@pluralistic
"Are you proud of yourselves?" would be an interesting question to ask, but that would require the sort of self-reflection that the Met Police certainly select against. -
To opt out, just don't have a face
@pluralistic Wear a mirror!
-
@RaymondPierreL3 @terribletowelie no kidding, I’m about to block everyone who put this on my timeline

To opt out, just don't have a face
@pluralistic Or wear a mask.

A nice extension to Black Mirror S07E04 (Plaything)
@matthewcroughan @pluralistic @angusm Just realised that my silly idea of a QR code based memetic hazard for "facial recognition" AIs is... a sort of Reverse Scorpion Stare

'Police Live Facial Recognition'
Is it limited to recognizing the faces of police?
If Badge_Detected == 'Y'
Then
Maximize_Privacy_Invasion(Object)
Else
Delete_image(Object)
EndThen it might work.
@SeanPLynch @pluralistic
Nice!
