.Opening the door for AI bullshit is not even the worst part of this idea.
Folks, all of us here ARE the algorithm. Personal curation is a feature, not a bug.
We make Mastodon awesome by following people and boosting what we find meaningful, significant or just cool. That's how it works.
Let's keep making friends. Let's keep sharing. Let's keep Mastodon alive. Together.

@lisamelton I'm outta here if an algorithm starts populating my feed. That's just how much I hate social media that uses it.

@lisamelton They can make one just for them. They can ask if others want it. I can’t imagine many takers.
I might be mussing some technicallity, but I’m not hostile to people modding their own feed.

@lisamelton Beautiful words indeed!

The strength of Mastodon truly lies not in an algorithm that dictates content, but in the people themselves and how they choose and support what they deem important and valuable.Humanity + Personal Choice = A vibrant and authentic community
Let's continue in the same spirit and make the platform ours!
@DiaaMahmoud097 Agreed!

@lisamelton "Glad we see it the same way

@berniethewordsmith He's getting pummeled the last time I checked.
@lisamelton @berniethewordsmith This was the fellow upset because AI journos weren’t being boosted here? Lol, yeah, we’re a tough crowd.

@lisamelton I’m new here and still kinda figuring out the whole making connections thing, but yeah this is absolutely the vibe and why I’m here
Greetings, I am rather new here too. I'm here to join the welcome party. I hope to cross paths in the future. Have a great day.

@lisamelton The main reason I came to the Fediverse was to escape the algorithm horseshit. I like this place just the way it is!

but the problem is nobody gets rich that way
@the5thColumnist how is that a problem?@lisamelton

Algorithm that copies the feed to /dev/null

@antivodonik I'm sure @the5thColumnist was being sarcastic.

@lisamelton I could be misremembering but didn’t we all originally think that “we are the algorithm” was how Facebook, Twitter, etc all worked? And then the stories started coming out about how the companies were “tweaking” that approach in order to “boost engagement”? In other words, isn’t Mastodon just finally giving us what we always wanted (and thought we had)?

@APBBlue I actually can't find the post anymore because I didn't fave it and I certainly didn't boost it.

Original Facebook didn’t even have a feed. Just peoples pages. So you went to your specific friends page to see what they were up to. And you poked them, for some reason. I remember thinking the newsfeed was so creepy cause you saw what ppl were posting without seeking them out. Sweet sweet innocence.

@lisamelton honestly I'd kind of like a choice of algorithms - not "whoever paid to be in front of my eyeballs" style "algorithm", but, for example, something that would foreground people I follow who don't post often and tend to get buried in the strict reverse chronological algorithm.
