    @baileytownsend There's a list of non-obvious hashtags curated by @FediTips here: https://fedi.tips/fun-and-useful-hashtags-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-wider-fediverse/ Includes classics like #Mosstodon.

    Hachyderm is plenty big, so you should see a good amount of posts for popular hashtags. If you want more, you could try looking into hashtag relays, e.g. https://tags.pub

    Custom feeds curated by things other than hashtags are mostly experimental, e.g. ongoing work by @toddsundsted.

    On Mastodon, for timeline curation you should also try lists. 🙂

      What's everyone's favorite way to view a timeline of posts here? I like that there's a local feed for hachyderm.io posts, but would like it if it was a bit more trending than showing newest first. Does look like there is a trending for the whole network and maybe hashtags is the way to go for scoped content? If so anyone got any good ones to follow??

      @baileytownsend there are also bots that boost the trending posts of a bunch of servers (I don't think this is the best solution to this, but it helps to add more variety to a chronological feed), I manage this one: @trending_bot

        @baileytownsend Hashtags are useful in general, though only if you're on an at least mid-sized instance, they're pretty useless on mine since there's no content there. On yours I think it should be fine.

        There's also a "Trending" tab that's kind of like What's Hot on Bluesky, here on yours: https://hachyderm.io/explore - again, useless on mine, so I use https://mastodon.social while logged out if I want to check that one or hashtag feeds. The downsides of a personal instance 🙂

          @mackuba OHHHH that /explore is just my instance and not all of mastodon? Did not realize that. Thank you!

              @baileytownsend It's what your instance can see about all of Mastodon - there's no general "all of Mastodon" since you can only see the data through the lens of your instance. But if you're on a large-ish instance, it's fairly close to "all of Mastodon".

                @baileytownsend I mostly just read my following feed and the instance-local feed.

                However, this mostly works because I've been around long enough that I follow lots of people.

                Bootstrapping is a problem.

                    My woot* from before might help you understand how discovery works here too
                    Though I can't say much about how to set your timeline because Wafrn instances and app are very different from the average Mastodon instance experience (I can't use Mastodon-compatible apps/clients, but I can use Bluesky clients )

                    *what wafrn posts are called, as toots are posts from mastodon instances
