@cazmockett I'm super looking forward to it! My entire trip is basically a detour for this and the Munich-Hamburg night train..

@Pepijn seems a perfectly reasonable idea for a detour! 😁

I'll use this thread to document my mini holiday a bit.

I'm currently in a bus to Kolding. There I'll take the train (ComfortJet) to Hamburg and ICE to Wuppertal.

In Wuppertal I'll get to travel on the suspended railway and stay overnight.

Tomorrow I'll move on to Munich, have a doner kebab and take the night train to Hamburg.

On Thursday I'll walk from Hb-Harburg to Altona and probably arrive just in time for DSB to make me miss the last bus home.

@Pepijn If you have the time, go also to Dortmund Universität and ride another danglebahn!

@geeeero Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to fit this in the schedule. It'll have to stay dangling there for another day.

Golden Dragon truly is the Talgo of busses.

And Danish transport equipment buyers loooove both as the upfront costs are just a bit lower than reliable equipment that people actually look forward to travel on.

@Pepijn Same here in Stavanger (NO) - before summer the whole fleet was replaced with Yutong buses with rather harsh ride "quality". Looks nice on paper but nothing compared to the Van Hools they bought in Trondheim (NO) in ride quality.

Train! Look at my amazing train photo! 🙂

            Now we're holidaying!

Somewhat worryingly this is the third time in a row the DSB/DB seat reservation system automatically placed me in a spot for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility.

What do they know that I don't?

Not sure why but I have a lot of interest in #train toilets.

Anyway. Every time I've been on Czech ComfortJet the toilets were fine. Same today.

Today was also the sixth or so time I came to the toilet only to find someone waiting for a closed door. ... Waiting only for me to push the door just a *bit* more forceful than they had, opening it and showing it was empty. "Oh!.."

All were from DE, NL or Nordics. Somehow this design is outside our grasp of normality.

I talked to a DSB conductor about this. He laughed and said not a journey goes by without him saying "push harder" at least once.

He also said how this was "at least not an issue with the Talgo". As those toilets have sliding doors that fail without people realising, so other passengers can open the door "mid poop".

I told him about @jon longest train journey event and he loved it "I hope DSB doesn't fuck it up for him"

                I think we bonded 🙂

@HaTetsu After the first time I was in a ComfortJet (with door sensors that work at walking speed) I ended up speed-walking right into a non-opening door in a Danish IC3.. 🙂

@ColmDonoghue I think it's really just a cultural quirk. A handle would stick out, and a push plate is in itself a non-intuitive "learned feature"*

*Apple smartphones are widely reported to be super user friendly. And it is if you've grown into it over years of training-without-realising-it's-training.

Now imagine a person who has never used a 2026 level Apple smartphone to do basic stuff like unlocking the device or using the undo feature in a textbox. They probably can't.

@Pepijn @ColmDonoghue I have to add that it isn't cultural, I took ComfortJet few weeks ago and was confused too.

It is completely different design of opening doors than on all other trains in CZ.

@Pepijn @ColmDonoghue only problem I had was - confusion what to do, push the button (it is meant for blind people to give them hint where to push), read the sticker, pushed, pushed harder and got in...

Bit hard for the first time, and yes I then helped few people to get in.

@smveerman Every single thing is very much "budget". Just as on a spreadsheet this bus is perfectly decent yet in operation that for now (these things will age quickly) makes it nothing more than "not a bad bus"

So even though it could easily have been better maybe this just fits the specs of contrasting colour?

@Pepijn there are design decisions I wouldn’t make. I would put the luggage storage on top of the wheel, and move the wheelchair space to the right side, to create more space for seats. But that’s a hot topic in bus design land it seems.

Google Pixel phone. For people who need an always-on spyware device and who have their children looked after by a babysitter whose name they don't remember.

Hamburg Hbf is very chill today. An entire class of local ten year olds is having a lot of fun with their a challenge of pointing out all the deceased pigeons. It's very relatable.

@Pepijn I have a Google Pixel 7 with Murena eOS.

                                        😃

EDIT: Mac OS didn't like eOS, changed it to "En osaa sanoa" ("I can't say" in Finnish.)

                                        😆

@kallekn I recognised it as Finnish and assumed it to be some edgy way of naming their versions 🙂

I do hope your babysitter (even if hypothetical) has an actual name and is not just defined by their function.
