@MarkHoltom I suspect the story is fake. There is absolutely zero information available on this man except for this one story. It seems to have originated in 2011 and has been passed around and has been mutating a bit since. Especially strange is that part of the story is the intense backlash this already famous man received when he made the announcement, but neither that initial announcement nor any of the backlash seems to exist, only the story of his "reveal". I could find no major news sources that carried the story at the time, only clickbait websites.

So my suspicion is that it is a bunch of staged and photoshopped pictures created to go along with a fake story, because somebody thought the sentiment "you wouldn't bury a valuable car, why are you burying valuable organs?" needed a dramatic story to go viral.

I believe that's true; looking at the newspapers from that time, it was widely reported. What isn't true is that he's the most powerful man and one of the richest; he's a playboy who inherited his grandfather's fortune, which is much smaller than that of the "emperors" of agribusiness, for example.

@MarkHoltom I hope it is true. And I hope he also made good example by bequeathing his organs to those in need.

@blotosmetek @MarkHoltom He is 74 years old, too old for organ donation.

@blotosmetek @MarkHoltom I tried to find references on the web. There are several posts, this one https://www.carsdb.com/en/news/1538 dates the event to 2013.
So: Probably true, no news of the week - yet the message itself still holds true.

@xenotar @MarkHoltom Yes, it appears the story is true, the text is just wrong, which is why I couldn't find anything on it. Better internet sleuths than I got to the bottom of it!

On the topic of organ donation, it's a wonderful gift. But I went a different direction and donated my entire body to the local medical school. They're always short on bodies, and who knows how many lives you could save by training young doctors.

@MarkHoltom @technothrasher @xenotar and perhaps a viable option for those who might be beyond the (multiple) organ donation age ?

One of the richest and most powerful man in Brazil - Thane Chiquinho Scarpa made waves when he announced plans to bury his million-dollar Bentley, so he could drive around his afterlife in style. Why wouldn’t he donate the car to charity? How out of touch with reality is this guy? He still went ahead with the ceremony.
                But, there’s a twist!!
Moments before lowering the car in the ground prepared for the burial of his Bentley, he declared that he wouldn't bury his car and then revealed his genuine motive for the drama: Just to create awareness for organ donation.
“People condemn me because I wanted to bury a million dollar Bentley, in fact most people bury something a lot more valuable than my car,” Scarpa said during a speech at the ceremony. “They bury hearts, livers, lungs, eyes, kidneys. This is absurd. So many people waiting for a transplant and you bury your healthy organs that could save so many lives!”

@MarkHoltom To be fair, he may want to bury the shovel, cuz the wealthy have buried so many innocent lives, that we may need the shovel to dig themselves out of the hole the #TechBros and #FossilFuels abusers, have buried us in.

@Rickd6 @MarkHoltom @xenotar An added benefit, at least with the program my medical school offers, is that it reduces the funeral arrangements and costs to zero. At the point of death, the family alerts the medical attendants. They then call the school, who arrange to pick up the body within 24 hours. Approximately a year later, if you so choose, they return the cremated remains to the family. That's it. No cost to the family.

@tomtom @blotosmetek @MarkHoltom In Brazil, this depends on the state. In some states, the age limit for cornea donation is 65, in others it's 70 or even 80 years old.
