I signed up for the Paris Marathon on April 12, 2026.
-
Company was nice - until she decided I ran too slow and then rushed home on her own instead of supporting her old dad.
-
A short and easy run, where I focused on not running fast.
After a couple of long and exhausting days, keeping the pace down was no problem. I never got past that sluggish feeling you sometimes have on a run. It was how it was.
The setting sun was beautiful, though, and my daughter kept me company on her bike.
Distance: 6.05k
Pace: 5'43"Malmö Marathon in eight days.
I started the day with an early long run (to get it done in time before the baptism of my nephew).
It was hard. My left leg felt tired almost before I began, and there were headwinds for the first 7k. Then I did a gazillion(/16) laps on the tracks and ran back home. It got better, the longer I ran.
This was not the run I hoped for, but that is just how it is sometimes. Onwards.
Distance: 21.1k
Pace: 5'49"Malmö Marathon in 7 days.

Are there any track related things that might explain the left leg issue?
Is it under a bit more strain than the right leg doing all the left turns on the track?
I've heard people mention that you shouldn't run in lane 1 for training 🫣
I hope your leg will feel fine soon!
And congratulations with the nephew!

The last shake-out run before Malmö Marathon the day after tomorrow.
Kid was sick today, so it became an evening run (after dinner), and that just never works really well for me. I'm a morning person.
Nevertheless, it all went well. I ran a bit faster than I had planned.
However, my left leg is still not exactly at 100%. I look forward to the race on Saturday, but I recalibrate my expectations and measurements of success.

I'm sure your body and mind will find the right balance on race day, whatever that means.
Sounds like the kid's all right after a day of relaxation

Pace: 5'26"I should race Malmö Marathon today - but my left quadriceps ached too much yesterday for me to go. It's not too bad now, but I won't risk full-on injury through 42.2km.
I really, really wanted this race. I'm doing a lot of motivated reasoning right now about why participating would actually be a good idea.
But it wouldn't.
And I know that. Not participating is the right decision. Better safe than sorry and all that. There will be other races.
Still, in this very moment, my spirit is low.

I'll let Coach Bennet do the talking.

(Just a few minutes)I feel your disappointment, this is not easy.
...and then.
Remember to enjoy life.
Enjoy your family and some cake and a cocoa. -

A short evening run to test my left-leg quadriceps. They still ache, even though I kept it slow. And I only had time for a brief run.
Not doing Malmö Marathon yesterday also means breaking my steak of 83 consecutive weeks with a 21.1k-or-longer run. Truth be told, I'm a little sad about that.
However, looking forward, we're now discussing marathon destinations for 2027. Rome, Stockholm, and Amsterdam are on the table.

I hope you get a handle on the issue you're having! I don't have good ideas, other than trying to talk with a pro if it continues.
