    One last thing:

    Trans women programmers are in fact women programmers. Trans women face many barriers simply for being who they are. Trans women have been kicked out of their careers, treated with disrespect, and been harassed for being trans women. And it's getting worse, not better.

    And, as for the achievement bit: A trans woman invented VLSI, a trans woman invented ARM 32 bit assembly language, and trans women maintain many of the FOSS softwares you use today (including Asahi Linux and the VC4 Mesa driver, amongst other things)

    And a trans woman wrote the post you are reading right now.

    A trans woman also invented webkit, one of the first modern browser engines.

      @dcnorris @jackielovescompchem32 and men have been trying to prove her wrong for calling it engineering ever since

      @wronglang @dcnorris

      Most men who call themselves software engineers don't actually follow the principles of engineering the way Margaret Hamilton did.

        I just saw someone actually say that women cannot write assembly code.

        🙄

        A woman wrote the assembly code that got humanity onto the moon. Be grateful

        @jackielovescompchem32 It wasn’t until being a programmer was a “profession” that men started getting into it. Before that, women did the calculations (the original use of the term computer) and then the programming

          @jackielovescompchem32 Will never stop sharing this article from Cosmpolitan 1967.

          Women are natural computer programmers - '“It’s just like planning a dinner,” explains Dr. Grace Hopper'

            @wronglang @jackielovescompchem32 The way most of us program, maybe we ARE proving her wrong! 😂

              @jackielovescompchem32 @wronglang I like the motivation & historical context provided by this quote (w/ refs in the article):

              "I began to use the term 'software engineering' to distinguish it from hardware and other kinds of engineering, yet treat each type of engineering as part of the overall systems engineering process."
