Linux is already confusing enough to use for regular people, so I hope these AI-free versions of it that are being recommended by computer people on here are ready for primetime. If not, a lot to regular people are going to give up on them the first time they can't figure out how to install a program or change a setting.

@MLE_online I don't think such an OS exists. NetBSD maybe, but that is far from user friendly at the moment.

@MLE_online Sadly, there's no 100% AI-free Linux distribution since the kernel, itself, is tainted. There are some really good projects who are doing their best to include no extra AI commits, though. One very user-friendly Linux project is @elementary. The project is vocally anti-AI.

@MLE_online idk, I think the kernel stuff is pretty bad and only set to get worse, and that'll carry over even into they distributions that maintain AI-free policies for their own code.

@ajn142 I guess it's a difference of opinion. I still wouldn't call it fully slop

@chadmccullough I keep seeing people specifically touting Linux versions that don't have AI in the kernel or anywhere else

@MLE_online I guess if they are running a Linux distribution with an older kernel, before Torvalds starting allowing AI commits, and software from projects prior to their adding AI, then that would be true. If they are running a newer kernel and newer versions of certain apps, then, no.

@MLE_online Yeah, I would love to know which Linux distributions are claiming to be completely AI free. If they're running a newish kernel, then that just isn't possible. Well, unless they are going in and stripping all the AI stuff out of the kernel. And that would be quite the job.

As far as the BSDs, NetBSD is definitely anti-AI. I'm not 100% sure about OpenBSD. I think FreeBSD is allowing AI commits but haven't actually voted on a AI policy as of yet.

As far as I know, NetBSD is determined to be completely AI-free. I have no idea how user friendly it is, but a fresh influx of interest can only help, I'd expect. Their donations are apparently already overflowing.

@MLE_online I thought the only Unix like thing that has made an explicitly anti AI stance is netBSD

Linux kernel is full of AI contributions now
