    There are very few people who can "unfairly" block you.

    Elected representatives, emergency responders, government agencies: their role requires a duty of access to you, no matter how much of a fuckwit you are.

    The rest of us have a right, maybe a responsibility, to manage where our attention goes. There are no objective criteria whatsoever in who we choose to follow and who we choose to block. We are the sole arbiters of our attention and there is no court of appeals.

      If someone blocks you, it's a great time for self reflection. Were you in the wrong? Should you reconsider how you treat people?

      Or was the person who blocked you too thin-skinned? Was there a conversation you should have had that didn't happen? How can you approach such people in the future differently?

      Or did you say the hard thing that needed to be said? Was it worth burning the relationship to deliver some hard truth?

        I don't know if it's a good time to blame the blocker, especially publicly. You don't know what people are going through. If they set a boundary, respect it and move on. It's a big world out there. Lots of other people to talk to.

          @evan if someone blocks you without telling you why, there's very little that can be learned from that (you can try to guess the reason, but it's impossible to know whether your guess is accurate unless they tell you)

            @evan
            Sometimes it’s hard to know that it’s even happened. You might just suddenly notice someone you used to see in your feed is just gone.

            I’ve had it happen where, out of concern I’ve made enquires as where someone went only to discover that they had blocked me.

            It’s kind of jarring. 🫤

              And to be clear, I totally respect this person’s decision. I was more concerned that something had happened to them or that we’d lost them to another platform.

                @evan I sometimes block people who've done nothing wrong at all - if they totally innocently trigger a response in me that's not healthy, I shouldn't read them. I'd rather not mute them because what if I post something and they reply in a way that really calls for a compassionate response, and I seem like I'm ignoring them?

                  @noisytoot @evan I had someone block me because they thought I was someone else.

                  I only know this because the last message they gave me was to review my message history for the argument we had had the previous month... Which didn't exist, because it didn't happen. *sigh*

                    @me @evan I'm sure I've "blocked" people who have done nothing wrong but I don't enjoy their posts which keep showing up on my feed but I don't need to stop them from hearing from me or commenting on their posts and probably should have "muted" them instead but I was confused by the UI or (esp. on a certain vertical video platform) chose to do the wrong thing because the UI made it a pita to mute instead of block.

                      As a hubzillian, have a range of option such as item deletion or filtration of content from the 'connection'.
