@divVerent @tknarr @cliffle The German government also runs a place name system (BKG). Does it choose a different name that Maps ignores? If so, that might be worth complaining about.
My point is really that people should first learn how the systems work before posting rants about them.

I checked from Ontario today, and it's still Lake Ontario.
Google announced that within the US it won't be shown as Lake Ontario however.
@maya_b @antopatriarca @cliffle what about the Gulf of Mexico, do you see it as "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)" or just one of them? Asking because I'd expect they do the same with the Lake at some point

@cliffle It definitely speaks loudly but unfortunately not enough. I would hope it helps wake up some people around me, but knowing their "It does not effect me" attitude - I doubt it.

I presume it will be consistent with the Gulf of Mexico.
