Sorry but even worse than images without alt text, are images with useless alt text... Such as this one: "image/jpeg"...
You cannot rage against the machine if your rage is ableist... -

@pinkflawd
what in the alt text?! -
@pinkflawd boosted, saw the image alt text, removed boost again.
Jay Grant gave good alt text. I boosted that

Alt text: Blue background with light blue text that reads "You CANNOT rage against the machine if you're asking it to summarise your emails for you."

Same here.

@pinkflawd This is completely bizarre.
The use of email implies the scribe is already long drunk on machine addiction and can't even think outside the box when attempting to be absurd.
This stuff also tends to bleed into attacks upon accessibility as maleficarum and it really is worth trying to learn from what happened in the wake of the printing press instead of being consumed with rage that 25 years of inboxes are being tidied.

You cannot rage against the machine if your rage is ableist...Yes I am tired of having my time wasted with useless alt text.If you don't want to describe your images, then leave it blank. ALt text isn't a title or a caption. It's a description of the meaning of the image.@MxAlba @pinkflawd

@pinkflawd #Alt4U "you CANNOT rage against the machine and use it to summarize emails for you"
(your current alt text is not suitable for visually impaired folks, thereby undermining it)
@mxjaygrant @pinkflawd
I'm boosting this to shame OP -

@pinkflawd Honestly, that wasn't the machine it was talking about — though it also is — and I think the distinction may be important here. Perhaps especially in this. It was meant to be raging against capitalism, control by the rich, etc etc. They setup a "machine."
But wait! Those services scamming by selling LLMs as "AI" are part of that!
Indeed. So do rage against that, but that.
On the surface it seems to amount to the same thing, but it's sort of not. These same sorts peddled scams before LLMs grew to this level and when the current scam bubble pops they'll move on to a new scam. Robotics? Gamestop? I don't know. Once again masses will be hurt by their actions because no one stops them.
Rage against them. They are the machine.

@pinkflawd I guess this is kind of a "forest for the trees" sort of situation. They have you focusing on the trees. Thus even if you see a tree in the middle of an empty field you see it as the enemy and attack in and meanwhile the true instigators just move somewhere else unmolested when the scam is done.
(Maybe this wasn't the best metaphor, but I hope you see what I mean.)

@pinkflawd @ai6yr thanks for posting this so I can block every damned alt text fiend on the damned planet. It’s text in an image. Use your tools.

@nemokamui Ouch, thanks for the catch. I have a number of non sighted users on my server.

@ai6yr yeah noted. I put alt text in my own but there is a limit when dealing with text in an image. Like, just help and aid. Everyone has to gripe.

I can't persuade Tusky (on Android) to do it for me. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere, but if so, it's not obvious
-
Ah. I think that might be the paste operation sticking in what's in the paste buffer. If that's a picture *and* some text, it may well do both, giving a picture with whatever associated text there was as its caption
If whatever copied the picture into the buffer in the first place also adds the text, and its default text is the name of the image type, that's the cause. And I can understand the interaction between two useful behaviours leading to this

@nemokamui @ai6yr What limit? This is only a sentence, which is perfectly reasonable to have verbatim in alt text.

@eladnarra @nemokamui The issue here is the alt text is NOT THE SENTENCE

@DerPumu @bellinghman @mxjaygrant @pinkflawd wait … what?
