Request: can anyone recommend Fedi servers (ideally on Mastodon) that would be suitable for a Canadian nonprofit org to make an account on?

Request: can anyone recommend Fedi servers (ideally on Mastodon) that would be suitable for a Canadian nonprofit org to make an account on? It would be especially helpful if the server was run by an org/group with a good reputation (easier to convince a board of directors that the platform is trustworthy that way).

@pqqq Are you willing to join a co-op? Cosocial.ca has a lot of tech support and pays their moderators.
Can't go wrong with mstdn.ca if you're just looking for a home.

@pqqq Do you know about the filters on https://joinmastodon.org/servers? I find this page quite helpful to determine which instance to choose.

@pqqq there's at least one company (with a good reputation) that does fully integrated hosting and management (version upgrades, resolving issues, etc) except for moderation (which is not an issue for a single org on an instance). look for "mastodon hosting". small instance should be a minimal cost. use a subdomain of the org's existing domain. two cents.

@pqqq https://thesocialweb.ca has a list of Canadian servers. If the non-profit is in a specific province, there's lots of regional servers.
Mstdn.ca is having lots of stability issues, I'm not sure i would recommend for a first experience to Mastodon, might be discouraging..

@pqqq Honestly, for this sort of simple, non-hacked use, they should rent an instance from any of the many places offering that.
It's a two-digit monthly expense, even if they're giving all members an account, and they have total control over its policies and fate. There is nobody that board can trust more than themselves.

@pharsicle @pqqq We already have two or three nonprofit members, and we are a registered member-owned coop. So probably worth a look. DM me if you'd like to setup a call or something.
