The lack of celebration, or even appropriate acknowledgement, from NASA is practically criminal, but it takes nothing away from the talent and dedication of my good friends who have brought us to this kilometerstone and beyond. Ad astra, y'all. Keep on rovin'. #space

@marsroverdriver such an amazing accomplishment, everyone I have known on the project has been so dedicated and we continue to learn so much from Curiosity.

@MrAptronym @marsroverdriver I remember (before the debacle) how the world was on Twitter together cheering NASA on - watching together as a world of humans so awed by the accomplishment. I think it was about 3 or 4am East Coast USA time, but couldn't sleep until it had touched down.

@marsroverdriver With the amounts of cuts on NASA, they're probably wary that a cake means having one button less on the control panel.

@thegarbagebird @marsroverdriver it gets renamed "Obedience" or fucking "America Bot", and reprogrammed to send back notes saying Elon was right about Mars all along. Whatever that means.

@marsroverdriver "Practically criminal" is a stretch, but sigh, it's classic current NASA social not saying anything because a) there are so few of them left, and b) the small remaining group are doing what they're told. And the (b) group is probably focusing on the Roman telescope launch.
5000 sols is tres cool. But my recollection, sad as it is, has been that NASA usually tooted such rover milestones in terms of Martian years?

@roadskater They used to take any opportunity (no pun intended) they could get to celebrate kilometerstones. Martian years, sure -- but also Earth years, and nice round numbers such as thousands of sols. When I say it, you might remember that Opportunity got to take an unprecedented (for her) selfie for her own 5000th. https://share.google/BF9weoY464GZEcXiw

@marsroverdriver NASA social has been crippled the past year or more, but I think they got instructions on Friday that any toots this weekend must not distract from the Roman launch.
I've seen such "do not distract" notices in the past.

@marsroverdriver All that said, I made a one-line change in the Mars time app that I wrote for my iPhone to correct how it displays the mission sol. Woot!
