    @henry what's also dumb is like

    The horses didn't have bills to pay? And universal healthcare, let alone universal basic income, is nowhere near close to happening.

    Boards are laying off workers because "AI" despite the fact that the statistical word generator can do basically nothing well.

    Let alone the massive climate impact or the fact that the word generator is easy to trick or the security issues or the big tech power grab or the outlandish IP theft or the or the or the

        @henry He clearly has no idea how many horses die being forced to pull carriages for just the amusement of rich people, or under the weight of jockeys at races, or under police, or for food... Thing is horses are slaves to humanity, there will be no innovation to liberates them. Just as workers are slaves to capitalism and there will be no innovation made by the capitalists that will liberate us from capitalism. The kind of slaves we will be when they take our work away will likely make us pine for the labor we did before. We are becoming a society of Guards and Prisoners... Because what is left for us when tech bros like this asshole have decided we are redundant, because machines can do things well enough to replace us. The Epstein class doesn't feel inclined to give us "handouts," as they would call something like UBI. So it's not that we want to work... It's that you need income in capitalism or the system is quite content to let you die. It doesn't free you up to do more with your live... It leaves you to starve in the street with everybody else society threw away. This is the new hell they are mmaking for us.

            @henry we need to normalize interviewers asking “are you ok? I’m worried you’re concussed or having a small stroke” when people say nonsense like this.

              @henry

              These companies are being run by people who dropped out of college, never took a biology or history course, stole their companies from smarter people when they discovered they could get a million people to pay a couple dollars for not much on line, and wasted what brain they have playing virtual reality games ever since. When they werent buying and abusing women. We need to totally avoid any bright ideas they have.

                        @henry There is some appeal to the thought that if AI can really do all the nasty work, we can all go do fun stuff. But apparently capitalism doesn't work that way...

                        @KeithWM @henry Turns out the fun stuff already has way too much competition and that's why people resort to the jobs that aren't fun.

                            @jef @henry Damn me, it *is* linear. It's just a) seeing exponential notation in that context is weird and b) when you're graphing growth and, uh, ungrowth, you just expect a semi-log graph.

                                    @kentenmakto @jef @henry there’s some real chartcrime going on at the bottom of the y-axis scale. I assume it’s just interrupted from zero, but it means the last few datapoints are not clear.

                                      @henry there are a similar number or more domestic horses today than there were prior to the advent of cars. If we accept his (ridiculous) assertion that they can ‘do what they want now’, is he suggesting that people who don’t need to go to school or work will have all their needs taken care of?

                                      I mean he has to be saying that right? A domestic horse today is feed, watered, groomed, exercised and provided healthcare (and can do whatever they want apparently).

                                      I’m interested in how the AI tech-bro communists are planning to redistribute their wealth.

                                        @jered @kentenmakto @henry It's not though. I agree it looks janky, and for no reason, but in fact it's just linear.

                                          @jef @jered @kentenmakto @henry Would have been slightly clearer if the 5 x 10^6 was written as 0.5 x 10^7 instead.
