A significant chunk of The Guardian's political commentary these days is just Oxbridge liberals urging politicians to do stuff they absolutely won't do. Thus we have Polly Toynbee today saying that Kier Starmer already being the most unpopular PM ever is an "opportunity": now (says Polly) he can and must act with "clarity of purpose" and disregard the opinion polls. Which assumes against all evidence that Starmer has principles.
No. What he should do is resign, but he won't do that either.
