Gotta love developers sometimes. Been noticing more and more stuff in Logic failing recently, and the latest update to 12.2 continues the trend. Now it's impossible to change the track icon - right clicking doesn't bring up the option selection and even selecting "Assign Track Icon" in the context menu does nothing. How is it even possible to break something so intrinsic to the code base???

@GuitarSith I’m amazed at how many things are doing this. Hulu on my device removed the “play from beginning” function for tv episodes. Why? Lmao

@GuitarSith developers don’t decide this, unless it’s a bug. At Apple, designers do.

@GuitarSith it’s a bug. The menu item for it is broken too. I suspect a dot rev is coming soon.

When I started coding in to early 80’s it was a real art. We were limited to 640k of memory segmented into a 64k code segment and a 64k heap/stack segment. And a 10Mb hard drive was enormous. Your app had to run in that space, so code was incredibly efficient and well designed. Without those limitations today’s coders don’t care, and the shitty apps we get stuck with are the result. To me it’s incredibly sad.

Another impact of all that poorly written code is side effects. That’s what happens when you modify a bit of code and ten new bugs suddenly spring up because that now broken code was dependent on the code that was modified. That’s definitely what happened here in Logic, the track icon has to be in their core code. Any changes that impact core code are a massive issue, and it’s happening more often now.

You know far more about their methodology and processes than I do, I’m only speaking to my own experiences, and I always took great pride in the code I wrote. If I’d caused a side-effect like this I’d be really pissed at myself for not catching it.

This does appear to say a lot about their QA process though, imo. I’m guessing anything that deep into their core code there’s little to no built in unit testing. Because nothing that deep could ever break, right? /sarc

I’ve reverted back to 12.0.1, there was no 12.1 that I’m aware of. Although given my lack of faith in Apple’s recent updates I could well have missed it. One thing I did notice going back that surprised me was I didn’t get a “this project was created by a later version of Logic” warning when I opened it. Maybe that’s another bug?
