Billionaires are worried about the Greta Thunberg type of protesting, which, on the ground, is a modest movement. But it's subversive, it tries to cause crisis. it's a type of protest that topples power structures.

Notice how billionaires never seem to worry about branded activism like #NoKings. It's because those types of protests don't apply pressure to those who wield power.

It's shows up and it leaves quietly.

#NoKings uses "non-violence" to mean non-disruptive. But that's not how Dr. King used the term.

"Non-violence" in the Civil Rights era dictates we not retaliate violently after we disrupt the status quo. It's sitting in a "whites only" diner, disciplined not to react when coffee is thrown in our face.

No Kings has no equivalent to sitting in a whites only diner. Instead, it dictates that we stand outside with a sign demanding the things we aren't willing to take.

@RiaResists protesting "every possible way" is unnecessary. We already know which types of protests are effective and which aren't. And if you're doing the exact type of protest that is ineffective, maybe it's time to ask if the leaders of that protest should be replaced.

If you need an example of this type of non-violence, look at Minnesota. They are stifling ICE's efforts to kidnap humans, while resisting any acts of violence when ICE inevitably retaliates.

@fromjason No Kings protests seem to be a trap.

What has improved after many, many No Kings protests? The elites don't fear them.

But one day of a general strike? That had caused a great, great stirr-up in the CEO class. They panicked and shat their pants that a second day or even an entire week of general strikes would follow. Because a general strike was the first thing, finally, to achieve something.

One single fucking day of striking.

Have you noticed that there was a No Kings protest soon after the general strike? Why would any thinking person abandon what puts the fear of God into the billionaire class (general strike) and instead go to a No Kings protest that they can and will ignore? It's a distraction.

Focus on what is working: Organizing general strikes.

            #fascism #resistance #capitalism #strike

@fromjason I was thinking about this guy's claim the other day and thinking, "Yeah, I guess it's about time I did."

I actually have been a lazabout that doesn't done shit to combat douchebags like this. Probably done more to help them that not. Time to raise myself from the pit.

You too can be an antichrist. You can be everything this man fears if you work on raising yourself and others.

My bet is Jesus would have been an antichrist but they made up the title long after his death.

@fromjason That is an *extremely* telling comparison.👀💯

If a massive nation-wide series of protests incites LESS retaliation from influential bigots than the relatively small targeted actions of a few protesters, it's not difficult to figure out which approach *actually* has a greater potential for meaningful impact.😬 TV

@fromjason Excellent take. Greta forced the navies of 3 countries to mobilize and protect her fleet. People should learn from her and try to always think what's effective, that is if they truly want change.

@fromjason The only problem with this is that while the No Kings protests are not really creating change into ways many of us would like, literally nobody else is doing the work to organize to make protests (or anything else) more effective. I would be more sympathetic to doing things different if people critiquing these protests were willing to do more than just critique, but at this point those participating in No Kings are doing a lot more than literally anyone else at this point.

@fromjason #NoKings is not meant to change any public policy outcomes directly. In terms of campaign strategy, what it does is:

                              1. provide an easy first action for those who've previously been completely uninvolved or only passively involved,
                              2. provide a context for activists and organizers to connect with new recruits and for newbies to gain emotional fortitude by connecting with each other, and
                              3. provide a show of growing movement numbers, as a warning to politicians and business leaders of where the consensus of voters and customers is trending.

@fromjason what about the 3.5% rule?

                                https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20190513-it-only-takes-35-of-people-to-change-the-world

That suggests we need about 10,000,000 people to join a day of no kings protests in the US for real change to happen.

@fromjason Modernity and Antichrist in the same messaging. Probably puts crypto and actual value together too

@MackenzieD what about the people critiquing the people critiquing the protests? Where are they in our great hour of need?

                                    lol stop it

@fromjason #NoKings is not meant to change any public policy outcomes directly. In terms of campaign strategy, what it does is:

                                        1. provide an easy first action for those who've previously been completely uninvolved or only passively involved,
                                        2. provide a context for activists and organizers to connect with new recruits and for newbies to gain emotional fortitude by connecting with each other, and
                                        3. provide a show of growing movement numbers, as a warning to politicians and business leaders of where the consensus of voters and customers is trending.

@deFractal retroactively applying a purpose to a non-movement doesn't magically turn it into a movement.

I'm sorry but you literally just made this up on the spot. These words do not exist anywhere but here right now.
