@msbellows @tk @dalias @LukefromDC Practical range of the various methods considered and a map (many meshnets have some with some currently known public nodes or repeaters on them, which can be helpful).
If you're in a city-attached suburb (there is probably a proper term for it, I do not know), it's possible that you have sufficient density assuming decent participation (a problem here for me), but linking up with the outside is where it really would have a better chance than others.
Omnidirectional signals can only go so far at legal emission strength (varies according to wavelength, which affects bandwidth), while directional point-to-point can often require somewhat expensive antennas and elevation (such as a tower). A nearby city may instead present peer nodes at a distance that doesn't require special measures to connect to.
If you feel like you can muster sufficient generalized participation (or have the discretionary budget to just install repeaters yourself), that would also make the task much easier.
(Yes, having a lot of friends or being apt at the social thing helps a lot.) -
@LukefromDC I suspect the saving grace is that in the grand scheme of things, there is nobody on Mastodon.
It's easy to forget from inside, but this place is barely a drop in the bucket.
@Adept That could also be said of NoBlogs. In both cases the counter is that certain specific Mastodon instances (just like NoBlogs does) have some influencers on them that the Trumpists and their masters REALLY don't like.

@feld Imagine how much different things would be today if Kim Dotcom had used some of his money to hire mercenaries and set a trap for those hunting him.

@LukefromDC And let me foresee there's more than two years of all this ahead - including also how next US elections are actively and deeply manipulated already.
@luc0x61 Think about this one: two months out and little in the way of high profile GOP campaign events/rallies. I cannot speak for campaign ads as literally have no exposure to them.
This suggests they believe they need not bother because the fix is in. They forget that an obvious stolen election will turn people out in the streets and grow the direct action underground like nothing else.
