Welcome to the #LongestTrainEU #CrossBorderRail record breaking thread!

@jon Such a same!! I heard it so many times now that there must be a system behind. When the number of bookings is smaller than x they send a bus.
@sebwilken I also hear Norrtåg is short of trains. But it massively messes up loads of LONG trips, as then connections in Boden also break. And how did they know I was even here, as I have Interrail?
-
@jon I'd say the train-replacement-bus is fair game here.
That 11 min connection (realistic?) might just cause another missed train later on?
@Pepijn If I miss that there's a later ICE to Hannover that catches up the NightJet...
And the Snälltaget, if it runs at all, is quite on time...
-
@davidjamesweir @jon 36% of Finland’s territory! (Much less of its public roads, of course.)
@tml @davidjamesweir @jon Are those holes in the sign bullet holes?

@jon That does sound like a good choice then. Despite the risk and rescheduling you still aim for train connections.

@jon That’s the point, they just don’t care about Interrail! I had one report that the driver even refused to let Interrailers on the bus ("This is not valid here").

So I could...
Change my rules, take a rail replacement bus Haparanda - Boden, anyway miss my connection in Boden, and re-plan and be on schedule by Hamburg - with some buffer
Wait for the next train, and massively re-plan, and rely on a 11 minute connection Snälltåget to Nightjet in Hamburg...

Right then, this post outlines my options
1) Change my rules, take the rail replacement bus, and do major re-planning, and lower risk connections
2) Stick to my rules, and rely on tight connections later on in the journey
Input welcome! I lean towards 2)

@jon Option 2! It‘s a record attempt after all, so give us some thrill

@jon Yes, option 2

Most important: can any people even better versed in the mess of Swedish rail that me tell me what the chances are that Norrtåg 7185 Haparanda - Boden - Luleå is going to ALSO be replaced by a bus?
It currently looks like it will be a train...

@sebwilken Ha. That's the spirit.

@jon I hate to say it, but short connections coming via Sundsvall AND into Hamburg does not sound like a recipe for success. It’s two iffy options, but since you have so much planning for the rest of the trip I’d lean to the replacement bus.

@jon How about 3) Go back and start over?

@jon My first instinct was the train-replament-bus, as all train companies still claim busses are still trains when it comes to compensation rights.
But: I'd say option two as well as it is doable. And as even with a delay you will still follow the original challenge (and get the fastest time simply by being the first).
Also it makes for better TV and a cleaner narrative!

@Pepijn The only thing I cannot estimate: what if the 13:47 Haparanda - Boden is *also* a bus? 🤨

@jon @sebwilken @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm I don't have any deeper insight, but currently the Norrtåg customer-facing ticket sales site advertises also 7185 as "inte tillgänglig" (not available).

@jon In my corner of the Norrtåg network they use different rolling stock, but successive cancellations is not something I’ve seen.
They are also amazing at sorting replacement buses that work, FWIW.

@jon But maybe then it's destiny. Part of the adventure/ narrative.
In essence I don't think the attempt becomes invalid when you take a rail replacement bus. It at best will have a small asterisk.

@jon @sebwilken @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm Out of interest, were there many other passengers to Haparanda on the train? Are they also continuing to Boden and beyond, Kiruna, Luleå, or Umeå?
