Thoughts on mountains on #mountainmonday.
I wanted to hike the Monte Pelmo, today, after being forced to give up, last week.
I had to cancel again.
The extreme heat is melting the permafrost and the mountain is literally crumbling. It's not safe, now. Another consequence of climate change that breaks my heart.
I then decided to hike another round ring I have been wanting to do since forever: the Mondeval plateau from Toffol.@hiking #hiking #dolomites #dolomiti

I have been several time on the Mondeval, it's one of those places that sticks with you. It's vast. It's beautiful. You can see the most iconic mountains of the area. Pelmo, Civetta, Tofane. They are all there. It's one of those view you can't forget.
It has always been a quiet place. Not many people usually go there. Unfortunately it seems that it has become viral.2/4

When I reached the plateau I was greeted by screaming people, other ones bathing in the Lago delle Baste (Baste lake) and unprepared hikers struggling with the trail. Cherry on top, some parents dragging their 3-year-old child over 2400mt, exhausted by the altitude and frustrated.
So I thought. Is this the new normal for us? Crumbling mountains, hikers with no respect of the nature and its gifts?
I still love the Mondeval, I spotted a majestic deer once, running free on the plateau.3/4
