hey all, I've been away for a bit and, upon my return, discovered that a server hosting a different account is gone. Is there any way to recover that account? I didn't get any email notification it was going down, and I hadn't logged in for a while, so I don't know when it happened. The 'missing' server is 'sotl.social/' thanks bunches

There's unfortunately no way to recover an account if the server disappears permanently, that's why it's important to join servers that promise to give three months warning if they intend to shut down (you can find such servers listed at https://fedi.garden and https://joinmastodon.org/servers ).
I tried looking up the admin contact email for sotl in the Internet Archive, it looks like the email has expired too

@FediTips #Help #Questionp.s. By the way, the latest version of Mastodon has email tools that admins can use to email people that they are closing down, so people who have forgotten accounts etc can also be reached.
These email tools didn't exist at the time sotl closed down, so hopefully this sudden shutdown without warning is less likely to happen in future.
