    Linux foundation has been complicit with the scammy crypto scene for a long time. "Linux Foundation" sounds great, but they are doing a lot of shady shit that we should not accept.

      @tante putting Mastercard and Visa on the board of a payment protocol meant to topple MasterCard and Visa seems like a great idea

        @tante Linux Foundation is joining widespread support from the payment industry for cypto. Not only Coinbase. Together with DAC8, Travel Rule, MiCA and AMDL6 there is hope for crypto transparency at least in EU. With a bit of luck crypto may leave its scammy past behind and finally become what is was meant to be in 2008. Implementing Hayek's vision of a global denationalized currency independent from central banks. That was Satoshi's idea for Bitcoin. Not "Store of Value" for Wall Street.

            @tante I guess this is the full version: #THEGOODPLACE

            Crypto today has been built on narratives not on verifiable facts or Satoshi's vision. Just join X.com and start listening: #HODL is my favourite bullshit (buy and never sell ... OMG).

              @liklyhood @tante Satoshi’s “vision” was terrible in concept because if it worked in practice it would lead to deflation and the hoarding of bitcoins by the wealthy. It was terrible in implementation because “proof of work” to validate a merkel tree is stupendously wasteful. Who ever they are, they should get in the sea.

                @tante The one time I worked with Linux Foundation to set up an associated project, they did all their documents in Microsoft Word. Ugh.

                @blp @tante

                When I joined a Linux Foundation org, they required me to provide a personal email address to join as an individual member. Their registration page kept not letting me through. It turned out, after contacting support, that ‘personal’ meant ‘with a domain from this small allow list of major providers’. Their entire infrastructure assumes that no individual would own their own domain or host their own email. I can think of nothing that better highlights how far they are from the principles of the F/OSS movement.

                They are an also just incredibly bad at everything. All of their hosted infrastructure is terrible. Far worse than an6 other organisation, including ones where the IT infrastructure organisation is ‘some nerd spending an hour or two every month’.

                  @liklyhood @tante Satoshi, and many other foolish people, reify money into a fundamental thing that is more important that the underlying economic activity it represents.

                        @bjn @tante I am a silent listener only in cyptomoney today (but still reading BTC coredev). My own digital money track goes back to 1996 at KU Leuven in Belgium (Project ASPeCT with Bart Prenel). Ways seperated in 1997 : I developed my own patent at G&D for loading cash on mobile phones (https://patents.google.com/patent/WO1998048388A3/en) which somehow collided with DigiCash (David Chaum). This patent was used until 2007. I know Satoshi's vision for Bitcoin from 2008 including BTC source code.
