    I'm not claiming that they're right, that you are actually buying "intelligence" from them by the meter, I think that's misleading.

    But also, the fact that that's the *framing* goes to show to you that they absolutely, completely want it to be, and want to sell intellectual slavery, as far as they can get it.

    @cwebber The closest they've ever come to a consistent definition of intelligence is something that can do economically valuable work.

    Under that definition, what he's proposing is that you would rent the ability to do work, at all, from him. And that is in keeping with the ai/vc set's stated goals and past actions.

      anarchists are communists, at least the anarchists who take the name from the first international, from which it was used to describe those who did not believe in Marx's idea of the dictatorship of the proletariat as a temporary continuation of the state apparatus

        @jenniferplusplus

        Yeah, I think I'm in pretty strong agreement with this.

        That what's being 'sold' is 'work' not 'intelligence'. It's not _thinking_ about a problem it's _iterating_ until it's RNG kicks out a good-enough solution. An endless parade of, "How 'bout this one, boss? 😃"

        Intelligence isn't manifested in 'work'.

        The choice of the word 'intelligence' is a deliberate mislabeling of what they would _like_ to be selling.

            @amici @lykso @cwebber I think that is an oversimplification even for the time, but in any case we don't live in the 19th century anymore and people have had a lot of different thoughts on both anarchism and communism since then. as such many anarchists these days don't identify as communists and do not necessarily share positions you might see as defining for communism.

                @jenniferplusplus @cwebber yes! This is a thing I keep coming back to in how I feel about what's going on. The effort here is to build the ultimate "rent a shovel" service where the entire economy is dependent on an oligopoly of cloud providers to functionally do work.

                I can live with a lot of things I don't like, but that's basically anathema to me.

                    I agree it's a simplification, but I also have issues with those who try to take away the historical context of anarchism, such as to describe vague and inconsistent relationships with the state and authority overall

                    ancaps and "lifestyle anarchists" come to mind

                    in my opinion all anarchists are communists, otherwise their use of the term anarchism is highly suspect - I certainly would like to know why they think their position is significantly different to an ancom

                      @amici @elexia @cwebber I definitely tend to think of myself as some form of small-c "communist" under which many positions may fall, including anarchist ones.

                      I recognize that there are people who appropriate the term "anarchist" without understanding the self-contradictory nature of their position, most notably ancaps.

                        @cwebber the time between people uncovering fascists' hidden motivations and them saying the quiet part out loud continues to shrink. they're practically scrambling over themselves to shout about how evil they are from the rooftops.

                                      Small C communism was the word originally, anarchism came a bit later-- I think after the split at the 1st International, where Marx ran off in a more authoritarian direction just like Bakunin worried he would.

                                          @violetmadder @lykso @elexia @cwebber

                                          never heard of the term "Small C communism" being used in those times, it sounds like a very modern turn of phrase

                                          but I know "anarchist" was initially applied as an insult, and was then later adopted by would-be anarchists as a way to describe themselves

                                          before that the term, as a way to describe a political position, comes from the work of Proudhon, which I haven't read but would like to some day
