Public computer malfunction.

Public computer malfunction. Windows, this time. And not a crash, just an installation screen. (If you think I am saying that means Windows is better for public displays, you are paranoid.)

@tml Not even an update – it's "SCOOBE" (Second Chance Out Of the Box Experience), where Microsoft tries to convince you every 3 days to set up an online account to log in to Windows (which tells me that these displays are running regular desktop Windows instead of IoT, and whoever set them up doesn't know how to disable all of these annoyances).

@jernej__s It used to be that many portrait mode public displays showed unintentional boot screens or desktop sideways, but apparently nowadays it is normal to just use the underlying OS also in portrait orientation.

@tml Clearly, FreeDOS is the right choice for public displays of OS

@tml Not unusual to still see sideways bootup screens, but once the OS boots, it's probably simpler for everybody to just use portrait mode.
