I am in the unenviable position of text arguing a friend trying to keep her from eating a large parasol mushroom she found in a forest.

As the old saying goes, "all mushrooms are edible; some are just edible once." Then you die and they pour your liver out like a dirty oil pan.
Y'all please do not eat fungi you can't trust 10 times over with a solid ID. If you find yourself texting a friend to ask if it's edible, the answer is don't eat it. That goes for all plants but especially for fungus.

@Tarnport Only mushrooms I pick and eat are specific variants of boletaceae - as they're easily recognizable and I know exactly where to look for them.

Also, never pick mushrooms when you're elsewhere in the world.
Every few years we have an asian family dying here because they picked a deadly mushroom which looks like an edible mushroom from their home country.
