    I HAVE JUST ORDERED ANOTHER WAVE OF LINUX LAPTOPS, USB THUMB DRIVES, AND PAINT PENS!
    I NEED TO GET MORE CARDBOARD!
    BUT THAT IS EASY!

    I BELIEVE THAT I'M GOING TO LEAN MORE INTO THE WHOLE THUMB DRIVE THING!

    IS IT TRUE THAT YOU CAN JUST RUN KALI LINUX FROM A THUMB DRIVE ON A MACHINE WITHOUT INSTALLING ON THAT MACHINE? AM I UNDERSTANDING THAT WRONG?
    COULD THAT INSTANCE OF KALI HAVE USEFUL STUFF INSTALLED ON IT LIKE APACHE SERVER AND JUPYTER NOTEBOOKS?

      @dirtwizard666
      yea, you can install linux to a usb drive. you'll need to do an actual install to the usb drive rather than just flashing it with a live iso.

            @dirtwizard666 Any distro is bootable from USB if you make the stick bootable.

              yes, have two usb drives ready. flash first usb with some linux iso, then boot from the first usb and select the second usb as the destination of the install.

              i have also tried this ubuntu live cd with persistency, but it didn't work well. i found that this regular install (where the usb drive is the disk) works much better.

              it should work with kali, because it's based on debian, and i tried this with debian.

              if you have a lot of disk input/input, then it might run worse from usb. that can be a bottleneck.
