@Meyerweb On a positive note, we can still buy and sell without a beastly mark on our right hand or forehead, so this administration still has room to get worse.

@Meyerweb "Papiere bitte" was a trope in 50s-70s tv shows to that someone was living under Fascism.
This trope was mocked in the 3rd Indiana Jones movie (1989), as Dr Jones said it to a Nazi, who had no papers, and Jones kicked his ass and threw him off of the dirigible, causing a room full of Nazis to immediately pull out their papers so it wouldn't happen to them.
Now the trope is long gone as it's become the slogan of the 2026 GOP.
"Nazis. I hate these guys."

@Meyerweb Feels like the Americans are obsessed with such convenient categories, calling "nazi" or "soviet" things that aren't specific to any of them. I thought it was merely a way for conservatives to force their views upon other people but it seems both sides are playing this little game, often in good faith (which is even more disturbing as it tells volumes about their willingness to take history seriously). We Europeans are not that different though, it's just on another level.
