@cstross I'm now wearing a badge on my coat that is a QR code which links to a page on my personal website that (currently) says "by photographing/filming me without permission, you agree to pay me an appearance fee of £100." It's obviously an empty threat, but hey, I felt like I needed to do something.

@Scurra@mastodon.social @cstross
I wonder if you might find it as effective to ask people not to disseminate or publish pictures in which you are identifiable?
Certainly the demand for a fee doesn't have a legal base.
I photograph races and so on, and there are occasional people who have good reason, court orders etc, to not have their image published, so their numbers are marked and if we catch them in an image we intercept it. More effort is applied due to the good reason and request.

@midgephoto @cstross
Yes, I realise that's the actual request I should be making. I just couldn't resist the slightly facetious one instead. -
@cstross Reminds me of a time someone put sql injection text next to their license plate of their car to delete the entire stop light database, and it worked.

I wish I did.

I heard of an attempt to fail the system, that backfired brutally, as the Person changed their plate to a set of Zeros in hope the data couldn't be assigned to the sum of Zero, but what the person didn't knew was that all not applicable data would be relocated to the sum of Zero giving that person all not correctly processed tickets...

@neurovagrant @trainguyrom @anotherdaniel @cstross @unknownbinaries I am not saying that a huge grocery store chain in norway is vulnerable to this "attack" in their self service tills, I would not know anything about that, no need to ask any further questions
... The ICQ flower?!

... The ICQ flower?!
@tirrimas yes it is the icq flower in my profile pic, if that is what you are asking?

@tirrimas yes, i remember it as good, and that is why I choose it as my pic. I had my friends on there and I met some cool people at an icq meetup thing back in the day. I lied to my parents about going because they thought the internet was a scary place.
But then I saw that icq closed down last year, and I read up about it and it was not a wholesome community the last years. Unfortunately it got bought up and used by not so nice people. Oh well. It was good back in the day!

@agathos yeah, it started going downhill once AOL bought it and shoehorned ads in. It's too bad

@Datterich @neurovagrant @cstross @unknownbinaries @catsalad Which camera opens QR codes right away?! Well, to be fair I have to use a FOSS QR scanner because the camera app from my phone doesn't scan those at all, but I never saw any phone that opens QR codes right away ever.
@qgustavor @neurovagrant @cstross @unknownbinaries @catsalad Can't tell out of own observation, but they said that iPhones do/did that?!
And probably some manufacturer or play store camera apps on Android, too. -
@neurovagrant @qgustavor @cstross @unknownbinaries @catsalad That's true. What always works (and even better in companies with ITsec training) is the button in the mail labelled "click here to report this mail as spam."
