🍪 There's one thing we can all agree on: we're fed up with misleading cookie banners. 🚫 And we finally have a chance to get rid of them!

💡 The solution? Simple! Express your privacy preferences once, for example via your browser or device, and have them respected permanently.

📃 A proposal to end this tracking circus is currently on the table of EU lawmakers – and could easily simplify things for everyone in the European Union.

@noybeu it would be good to add what parties the politicians listed there are from. Some of them, I most certainly do not ever want to contact...

                @noybeu I don't agree.

First it's not about cookies but all PII the software is processing, e.g. in localStorage, every IP in Third Party Requests and even in the websites own Requests if not strictly necessary and obvious why.

You have to inform for each Purpose and Service in the moment of processing and ask for permission.

The Solution could only work if we have a human countable list of DPS/Purposes in the browser, but on websites could still be different ones. Banner still needed.

@noybeu Another thing is I want to give site specific consent, e.g. I like showing Valve and some other sites that I'm on Linux, so that they can focus on optimise for these system.

Ok, certainly there will be a way for me to configure this but that leads to the question if site owners should have the right to remind me and ask again. Basically showing the good old banner again.

If yes, than mainly all sites will stick to showing the banner on every landing page.

@noybeu And last but not least if the banners will really be killed, most VLOPs sites will continue with visitor stitching and track everything in a hidden server to server way.

So given that, the server infrastructure would have to be inspected from time to time by official inspectors. Who should do that? Which organisation do you trust.

                      It's a mess.

BTW: I'm angry to Mozilla hiding the Google Analytics requests in Dev Tools beside they are clearly coming through with almost all data.

@noybeu I find the benefit of this a bit unclear. Yes clicking away cookie banners is annoying. We have some technical workarounds to make it easier like https://consentomatic.au.dk/ or https://www.i-dont-care-about-cookies.eu/. The issues I see are the dark patterns used in practice, not to mention simple noncompliance with the existing law, and it being way too difficult to penalize this. Are there materials that explain more about why this campaign considers this a good change?

@noybeu Not to mention, as pointed out by your site, if this is part of the problematic Digital Omnibus, am I not risking that politicians support the whole Omnibus instead of just the aspect I would like them to?

@HarHarLinks Hi there! We will provide more information on the website explaining how the solution could look like in practice asap. In short, we favor an approach where a third-party agent can manage such requests and give (based on user choices) specific consent to individual controllers.

You can check out ADPC or navigator.consent for examples for how this can be implemented technically

@HarHarLinks No, not at all. These negotiations are not "all or nothing", but the articles are being discussed individually. MEPs can therefore be for one measure (in this case Article 88b GDPR), but be against the measures that would weaken your rights. This is what we are trying to achieve in this case.

@noybeu Thanks for replying, I look forward to more updates.

Should I not be concerned that solutions with detailed presets like in the navigator.consent demo actually widen the tracking fingerprint surface for bad actors? I understand that anything not sufficiently common I send into the internet is another identifying datum, lessening my privacy stance.

The convenience through technology is nice, but no solution to a problem of a policy not having sufficient teeth to enforce it.

@noybeu I think the real solution is to outlaw data-brokers. remove the incentive structure and thats it

I would have liked to help, but thanks to the actions of idiots, I no longer HAVE an EU MEP.
