@Tutanota I do wonder if promoting LLMs that have stolen the collective works of artists and, in fact, everyone, and continue to cause massive environmental damage is entirely ethical of you.

AI slop hurts your soul.
It makes you: distrustful, dismissive of creative works, uncreative, derivative, imaginatively stunted, unreflective, dependant, it robs you of the satisfaction and growth granted by the creative process and it poisons you with all the same cultural biases taken from the training data.
AI robs people of imagination and the drive to create and instead produces output that is pastiche on steroid, uninspired unchallenging slop, every little detail crafted without personality or opinion with nothing to say except "this might vaguely remind you of something good that already existed"
I am also particularly concerned about the rise of chatbots pretending to be humans for political purposes.

@Tutanota I'm less convinced about the AI agent promotion, especially in the light of the unfolding Clawdbot debacle.

@KatS Whoa, what's the debacle? I'm guessing something enshittified?

@thejessiekirk Some techbro vibe-coded a half-million-LoC execution environment for AI agents in a couple of days, gave as much thought to security as he did to reviewability, and the 100% predictable hilarity is currently ensuing.
We begin with an API key being included in plaintext in the client-side JS code, move on to... hell, here's one article on the subject: https://www.okta.com/newsroom/articles/agents-run-amok--identity-lessons-from-moltbook-s-ai-experiment/

@thejessiekirk Edited because, as appealing as the execution of half a million AI agents might be, what I actually intended to type was "execution *environment."

Just noticed the @s. It looks like it's called NotesNook.

Here are more tips to deGoogle: https://tuta.com/blog/degoogle-list
@Tutanota @nextcloud @notesnook @CryptPad @MistralAI I feel liberated now that I've quit Google. It's wild how people just ignore the fact that half their search results are sponsored.

Screenshots look great. They boast about e2e encryption and privacy.
Was hoping to try before I buy and there is a free plan, but I can't figure out to select it. It feel intentionally unelectable.

@thejessiekirk agree but they're not saying "please use LLMs" either. I think we gotta read the room and admit humans sadly reach for unhealthy things. if we know the kids are smoking shouldn't they at least be told the least toxic brand. mistral I think is the only EU made mode that can run locally on your own computer

@thejessiekirk You're right. That's also why we do not add AI features to Tuta. Yet, this is to show there are better alternatives to Big Tech, in regards to AI, the alternative is not perfect, though, you're absolutely right.

There is no such thing as ethical AI. There's no right way to do the wrong thing, don't compromise on the pollution of the information sphere and denigration of art and culture and proliferation of consciousness-impersonating political agents

Hallucinations and soulless misinterpretations are reason enough not to trust LLMs to translate messages written by humans

you can say the same about cloud ai...
also, what do you define as "ai"? pathfinding algorithms for example are classified as a type of ai.
edit: i meant cloud translation.

@Tutanota @nextcloud @notesnook @CryptPad @MistralAI Could you help to create sort of 2026 challenge to move gradually? It is hard to do this at obce but maybe with community shareing tipps... Why not?

@65_percenter LLMs or as I've taken to calling them: large lying machines and Image generators and Video generators and Music/Speech generators are what I have problems with
