My kids complained once that my husband and I knew too much about technology; we were the wrong generation.

@paul_ipv6 @wendynather it was. And PIP (our proposal) was the super future looking. So they decided to go with a monstrosity composed of a bunch of different things none of which are wrong necessarily but which don’t tell a cohesive story. Combine that with the introduction of NAT and… well here we are 30 years later.
@petrillic @paul_ipv6 @wendynather
In hindsight, it is obvious that there were IPng proposals and concepts NSA really didn't want to happen.
For instance flow-routing would have made their "collect everything" a lot more expensive.
Same, probably to a lesser degree with multi-homing.

i still apologize regularly for having helped build the internet.

@paul_ipv6 @wendynather the one that really needs to apologize is the one who let the ads in. When they let for profit use into the internet, that was the worst possible decision and responsible for the current mess/the beginning of enshittification.

@johntimaeus @paul_ipv6 @wendynather well actually… not responsible but did deploy a lot of it with Fore Systems and then Xylan when I was at Optical Data Systems.
The future is so bright it goes 155!
Or 25 if you’re some weirdo at IBM.
@petrillic
@johntimaeus @paul_ipv6 @wendynatherThere's a name I haven't heard in decades
a long time ago, the group I worked with helped test Fore Systems' first fiber channel boards for a specific architecture. it was absurd at the time
