@taniel Coalition governments can struggle to take strong or difficult decisions because they have to balance the competing interests and priorities of multiple parties. This can sometimes lead to compromises, delays, and weaker policy decisions.

@rajendrap @taniel However, they are a function of Proportional Representation and PR is extremely good at preventing an extremist party from taking over completely. Case in point: Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. Under a system of First past the post, the extremists would have won every single seat in parliament. Now they need a coalition and will very likely not get one.

@thomas_decker @taniel But India doesn't use proportional representation. We use First-Past-the-Post. The candidate with the most votes in each constituency wins the seat. So the Saxony-Anhalt example doesn't directly translate to India. Under our system, a party can win a large majority of seats without winning a majority of the total votes. That has reduced decision taking capability in the past.

@taniel it's not quite that clear-cut. People keep calling it the left-wing coalition or bloc, but one out of the four parties - Centerpartiet - is very right wing on several issues and there's a lot of uncertainty on how they're going to reconcile their politics with Vänsterpartiet ("The Leftist Party") to form a government. A re-election is not impossible.

@taniel I am relieved. The left coalition locally here in Malmö got over 60% öv the votes which is nice. In fact,to simplify, big cities lean left while the country leans right. In the coalition Centerpartiet is still too much on the right, and it will create friction, hopefully a lot of friction: Socialdemokraterna should steer left to achieve things for the people.
