While talking to a colleague about how I recently learned most people have never sat on a cow it came up that she has never sat on a horse. Like, not even once during childhood.
Another colleague admitted they also have never sat on a horse.
My hypothesis is that most people have at one point in their life sat on a horse.

@Pepijn i thought this sounded super silly until i realized that even me, who basically never leaves my house, have sat on a horse once before. So maybe you're onto something...

@Pepijn@mastodon.online there was this viral video a few years ago of a girl who taught her cow to jump obstacles even. I think they had a farm but weren't able to have a horse.

I have sat on a horse, but I suspect most people have not. I don't think any of my kids (youngest is old enough to vote) have sat on a horse ever

@Pepijn@mastodon.online Have had the opportunity on a handful of occasions and have always refused. Horses terrified me when I was a child, and I'm still wary of them (for broadly similar reasons) as an adult.

Yes. We owned a horse once briefly.And in fact, I even once sat on an elephant (ouch BTW. Their hairs are stiff like tiny needles.)

@Pepijn No, I’ve never sat on a horse. I’ve only ridden a pony once and ended up with a broken arm from falling off it.

The person whose horse it was and who explained to me how to do it told me that he concluded that I belonged to the "SOS" school of horse riding, because apparently my position on the saddle looked like a Sack Of Shit.

Same! I was trying to milk our goat after a phantom pregnancy and was straddling her, holding on to one horn as I bent over trying to milk her (she weighed 100lb!).I was totally concentrated and then heard some noise and turned my head around to see my wife and daughter both creased up laughing because it apparently looked a bit, err, wrong.

@Pepijn Yes! I have a strange connection to this, but I attended diabetic camp. You see, camps exist for multiple reasons. One week you might have rainbow camp, for cancer survivors, and the next you might have asthma camp. There are also weeks where they serve as the camp for the boy scouts, the girl scouts, or any other club. I attended diabetic camp from age 7 through 12, and I rode a horse each year.
