@ctt I am using a searxng installation on my vps, although that's only as good as the search engine it uses. I think by now most of my search results come from bing and ddg, with qwant and ecosia mixed in.
It has its own problems though. It's slightly slower (after all it queries first go to other engines) and for some stuff the results really aren't good. Anytime I search for a specific product available locally I have to turn to Google or ddg instead.

@Ronnie I hadn’t until about a month ago. I haven’t tried it. It’s a European based, subscription search engine with a focus on privacy.
-
@ctt honestly I’m not loving it, but it’s where I retreat to when someone in leadership at Kagi turned out to be a transphobic fascist

@ctt I use DuckDuckGo but I mostly use it for the bang system. The amount of actual searches I do on DDG are pretty minimal

@thibaultmol Thnak you for the #Uruky updates. I have been eyeing it from a distance, but have not put it through its paces yet.
@ctt @thibaultmol I’m probably going to give it a go when my Kagi subscription is up.

@ctt I general start with Mojeek, but results have gotten worse lately. Will then switch to Goolge settng the udm=??? (forget which one). If that doesn't give decent results I'll start up Bromure which is a VM browser on my Mac and use StartPage. If that doesn't give good results, while still using Bromure, I connect to perplexity.ai with an anonymized email and connected thru a CloudflareWARP daemon. Generally ignore the results and just copy all the URLs provided and manually go thru them.

The free trial of Kagi was pretty good, but I burned through my 100 searches fast refining terms. -
