My doctor looked at my ECG and asked three very specific, loaded questions:
-
I probably didn't even notice the heart attack, he said. I probably just felt really sick or tired. There's been a lot of that. And the body keeps score.
Yeah, when I had a heart attack the only thing I noticed was that I was feeling kind of bad and slept better in the recliner than in bed. Was talking to my mechanic and he said an employee had taken to sleeping in his recliner, then died there of a heart attack. So I thought I'd better get checked out.

{hugs} and I hope you get the care you need.

@wanderinghermit I'm glad you did.

There's been a lot of occasions where I had to sit up to sleep because of an upset stomach or other issues. I never thought about it. 🫤

I later told the mechanic that he probably saved my life.

It's been a very surreal birthday.

@gwynnion
Holy what the fuck! -
So in terms of cardiovascular damage, even asymptomatic COVID is comparable to getting fucked up on cocaine a lot.
In case that information is useful to you.
@gwynnion
I don't suppose I get to choose between the covid & the cocaine? -
It's been a very surreal birthday.
@gwynnion
Uh, happy birthday?
& wishing you a better, or at least less medically calamitous, day tomorrow.

It's not something you're likely to hear from a medical professional. In hindsight there were multiple red flags that, when I told my PCP "it hurts when I do this" her response was like the old joke "well, don't do that."
I now have a different PCP.

@wanderinghermit Also a good idea. I'm not crazy about mine.

I got lucky, my new one is amazing. She gave me her cell phone number, said call from wherever I am if I have medical questions. Said to consult her if I need a specialist because she's spent a lifetime learning which ones to NOT use. I didn't think doctors like her existed anymore.

@gwynnion Oh, fuck. I’m sorry.

I’m happy you have a doctor who is willing and able to actually put those pieces together… Back in 2023 my BIL had a case of Covid and then in 2024 had a mild stroke at 45: there was lots of discussion of family histories, lifestyle and the like, but not even a hint of suggestion that Covid could have been a contributing or exacerbating factor.
️@DavidM_yeg It was a process of elimination. We don't have a family history of early heart attacks (that I know of) and I wasn't a smoker, alcoholic, or former drug user. And since my health started going down after 2020, it seemed like an obvious guess.

@gwynnion wooow, this is news to me! Thanks for sharing

I hope you feel better now
