    I don't know who needs to read this, but: there's value in doing things slowly, in your own way. Trying to maximise efficiency in your life is a fools errand, and will just hurt you. Take the longer route with the nicer scenery. Write that email by hand instead of asking a bot to do it. Spend some time to read and not just skim. Take your time and cook a nice meal for yourself. Pursue little hobbies, even if you're not good at them. Don't compare yourself to others, don't focus on improving. Just enjoy every activity for itself. Don't let the world convince you that you always have to be optimising yourself. Just be sub-optimal and happy!

      @megadec yes, i should add that none of my post should be interpreted as a criticism of those who deal with this mindset. The fault is not for those who over-strive, but with the world that convinces them they have to.

          @megadec the best part about being blithely suboptimal is that you tend to end up not being all that sub in the end. So much of being suboptimal is you being your own worst critic.

          You grow through taking chances. There are so many people out there doing it worse and some of them are convinced they're really good.

          But ultimately is it something that brings you joy? That's the only answer you really need.

            @liamoc Indeed. This toxic productivity pressure is just corporate bullshit leaking over into people's private lives. It comes from a culture of exploitation, and should be limited as much as possible.

              @liamoc

              💯 Learned this lesson twenty years ago, and wish it had been forty years earlier. But, the best time to slow down is right now.

              Take your time to enjoy doing things. Stop and start again some other time if it is stressing you out. Listen to nature.

                @liamoc I agree.

                I removed metrics, competitiveness, and incentives from dashboards. We’re overwhelmed by numbers.

                My 15-minute customer appointments are now meaningful.

                I fix the machine in 5 minutes, then chat and laugh with my new buddy. I don’t care about comments. If needed, I’ll do 2 or 3 appointments at once. Everyone chats together, and I have better days.

                I lived in a world ruled by metrics, but I still have the power to ignore them.
