-9.55 degrees Celsius this morning in Tilst. The gears to my bike are frozen solid so I'll be starting the year with a day working from home I guess.

@EvilCartyen Only -4 here in Billund. Went up a lot from the -12.5 last night.
Now to see if we get any snow

I don't mind the cold, but I'd like it to stay around -5. Any colder than that and stuff starts to break - and also, it burns something fierce on thighs and exposed skin after doing the 30 minute ride to work.
I do like the ice in my beard, though. Makes me want to invade England and burn down a convent or two.

And then Danes act all upset when the US wants to take over Greenland... #MoralLowGround

Look, it's my cultural heritage. I'd be dishonouring my forefathers if I didn't loot a bit once in a while.
I suppose I could also go trade in Russia, but that's a little bit more Swedish. How about I raid Paris instead? Maybe settle in the North of Frankia and start growing apples?

@EvilCartyen @Pepijn I don't think they have that much gold to loot anymore. Could we maybe direct you to the nearest Apple store instead?

@afewbugs Also there's the entire ETA application thing now. Makes you contemplate whether invading England is just too much hassle these days.

You know, the looting thing is a bit overstated.
We vikings are a helpful bunch, for instance in 793 where we helped rescue countless cultural artifacts from a fire when the monks all spontaneously fell over and the convent self-combusted.
So, really, I don't know what all the bad press is about.

@EvilCartyen @Pepijn we don't have many monks, combustible or otherwise, left I'm afraid and no one's had any gold since about 2008. On the plus side you don't need to bother storming the city walls anymore, just head left about 20 metres to the bus stop by Nandos and you can walk around it

You know, if I were to loot the UK today I'd probably go for something like your pub culture, I did enjoy to see people of all ages in pubs when I did a brief stint in Manchester back in 2010.
I'd also steal some dialects - like lancastrian, scouse, geordie.
I suppose I could loot the British Museum, but I'd feel morally obligated to give the stuff back to the people you stole it from...
I'm not going to make a very good viking, am I?

@EvilCartyen @Pepijn alternatively of course if you wanted to target Exeter cathedral you could get a longship right up into the heart of the city by docking at the Quay, and as a bonus there's a climbing gym and a bunch of nice hipster cafes if you wanted to get a matcha latte while waiting for the optimal pillaging moment.

@EvilCartyen @Pepijn not with that attitude you're not! Be the berserker you want to see in the world!

@EvilCartyen @Pepijn we don't have many ravens I'm afraid, mostly pigeons which are a bit less ominous. It's a bit of a steep hill up from the Quay to the Cathedral so if I were you I'd wait for the bus, wouldn't want to be out of breath before you even started to pillage. And then obviously you'd want to time it for after the school run, nothing worse than sharing a bus with dozens of 13 year olds playing their phones without headphones and getting greasy fingerprints on your shield boss

This thread is making me want to rewatch Norsemen - probably only available on Netflix, but if you haven't seen it you definitely should.

I only ever saw clips of this but never realized it was an entire series. Looks like a fun way to connect to (modern) danish culture. Now to find it somewhere..
